A Shout Out

Byran prefers to listen to KSL's  "Voice of the Cougars" Greg Wrubell call BYU's basketball games over listening to the TV announcers. He usually turns the TV volume down and the radio up when he watches the game at home. Thanks to the DVR he can get the two to sync up pretty well.

The day after the accident there was a big game at the Marriott Center. BYU vs SDSU. The game was sold out, but earlier in the month Byran had been able to obtain 30 tickets so the Young Men, leaders and a few parents in our ward could go. Due to his serious concussion and skull fractures, he watched what he could from his hospital bed. That night he couldn't get the TV and radio to sync up, so he just watched the game on TV.

Shortly after the game ended, Byran started getting text messages, emails, and phone calls from friends, family and previous ward members who had listened to the game on the radio and had heard his name and the details of the accident. Stunned and confused, Byran was able to pull up the podcast of the game, and this is what we heard...

Needless to say, we were both once again amazed and shocked!

Eventually we were able to find out how this happened. Byran's colleagues on campus worked for hours making many, many phone calls to make it happen. They all know that Byran is a big fan and this was a way for them to reach out and show their support.  We were so touched! They had gone to SO much effort to do something so special for us!

The next Saturday, our dear friend Casey shared four tickets for the BYU vs UNLV game. After much pleading from me for him to go and take a break from all the accident drama, Byran very reluctantly went to the game and was able to take my dad and brothers. I had my own break by being entertained by my sister-in-law Kim and niece Haylee for an afternoon of pampering while he went with my dad and brothers to the game.

Of course the win for BYU was great, but it just wasn't the same as he worried about me. However, a special thing happened before the game started that made it all worth it. Thanks once again to Casey, Byran was able to meet Greg Wrubell and personally thank him on behalf of the both of us for the Shout Out on the radio. He was very personable and asked how we both were doing. It was a short visit because he had to go back on air, but we are so grateful to have had that opportunity. Casey told us that when it all comes down to it, it is Greg Wrubell who makes the final call on whether or not he says something when he is on the air. We have no doubt that the number of calls to KSL from colleagues and friends greatly influenced him to take a minute during an intense part of the game to send words of support and encouragement to us.

We have been humbled over and over again by the many prayers, acts of service, food, flowers, rides, play dates, and acts of kindness on behalf of our family over the last month. It is hard to be on the receiving end. I think we are both more comfortable on the other side. But until that opportunity comes, this is our Shout Out to all of you--KSL, BYU colleagues, current and past ward members, neighbors, family, extended family, and the extended family and friends of our families.

Thank you, thank you, and know that we love you dearly and that you have been the answers to many prayers.
