Today was a pretty typical day...as far as rehab in a hospital. The morning was busy with another therapy session in the pool. Sheia really likes the warmth of the water and the liberating feeling of walking "normally". However, she needs to be careful not to do too much in the pool as she feels it later on. Following a shower and getting dressed, which is a whole workout in and of itself, she was feeling pretty sore and achey and welcomed the pain meds to help her relax. But who ever heard of relaxing in a hospital? The noise of a busy hallway and the untimely entrance of nurses checking on her made it difficult to rest.
Before she knew it, it was time for a quick lunch and another hour of physical therapy. This one was special in many ways. Sheia's parents came to watch and get "trained" in moving Sheia. This was the first time they have really seen Sheia walk. They were amazed. They also saw that it is still pretty difficult for her to get in and out of bed. They also were able to help Sheia make her first attempts at getting in and out of the van (a new one of course). This took some work but she did great. Then the next step was a short ride around the parking lot. This was a big step for her, as you can imagine, but an important one as she works her way to coming home. She is showing tremendous courage and continues to benefit from so many prayers and words of support.
Although the afternoon therapy was a lot of work it helped her get over the morning hump of pain and discomfort and felt much better throughout the afternoon as she relaxed and continued to make plans for her return home. A special visit from our Stake President, Cliff Park, allowed for both Sheia and Byran to continue to reflect on our blessings.

Sheia. . .I'm thinking of you always, and you are in my prayers. You are so strong and courageous. Good luck in the next couple of days, and let us know if we can do anything at all!
